Illinois Steelworkers: Act Now for U.S. Jobs!
 
The Buy American resolution has been introduced in the Illinois legislature!  Now we need to get it moving.  Please make a call to support the resolution today!  And, please add the Illinois State Lobby Day to your schedule. It will be held on Wednesday, May 20th.
 
1) Find out who your State Representative is by visiting: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/officials/?command=local
 
2) Check to see if he or she is already a cosponsor of the resolution.

4) Please thank Representatives already cosponsoring.  For those that are not, ask them to cosponsor HJR00031, the Buy American Resolution. 
 
The following are talking points you may want to refer to for your call:
bullet Four million U.S. manufacturing jobs have been lost since 2000, amounting to losses of nearly one-fourth of all U.S. manufacturing jobs.  Factory orders now stand at record lows while the U.S. racked up a $700 billion trade deficit in 2007.
bullet According to an Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) study, significant investment in infrastructure could create more than 250,000 manufacturing jobs if U.S.-made goods are used.
bullet Buy American ensures that taxpayer dollars are used to buy goods produced in our country and create jobs at home.  This will maximize the creation of American jobs right now when we so desperately need them.
 
5) Please make a second call to your State Senator and ask for his or her support.  This resolution will go to the Senate after it passes in the House.
